Educational Training – Skills Development

This project is categorized as stage 2 and has direct reference to project listing “Shelter for Orphans”

Agnus was granted rights to a section of land adjacent to the Orphans Home where in addition she runs an Aftercare Centre for the community.

Ages of the orphaned children range from New Born to 20 Years in groups 0-5 Years, 6-16 Years and 16 to 20 Years.

0-5-Year old Orphans are accommodated at this After Care Centre where they receive preschool development training in readiness for later entry into main stream schools.

6-18 Year old children attend main stream schooling but the dilemma is the extreme level of student drop outs between Gr8 and Gr12. The root cause is attributable low self-esteem and inability to grasp the study program due mainly to their adverse circumstances. Unfortunately, as orphans, the benefit of extra mural assistance from a home perspective does not exist and they are reluctant to request assistance from school teachers in lieu of their low level of self-confidence.

Our goal is to establish an Educational and Skills Training Centre on a vacant piece of this land that will cater for school pupils, drop outs, and older age group orphans who have finished schooling to the following extent.

On an educational level, by the employment of either a qualified retired teacher, or intern, to provide extra mural support for those who are struggling with their school work so as to reduce drop out level, as well as for those who have dropped out, that they may have the opportunity re-enter school and attain their grades. Complimentary to this it is deemed necessary as well to employ a retired psychologist, or intern, and social worker to deal with the social problems that no doubt is inherent owing to their circumstances.

On a skills training level, by providing guidance and instruction in the fields of Metal and Woodwork for school leavers, or those who have decided not to continue their schooling, that may be endowed with skill sets that will smooth their move into society.

Items can be produced in the Centre during the training period that will benefit the community and other ECD Centre’s in the like of Gates, Burglar Guards and Outdoor playground equipment.

Funds from the sale of these items can be reinvested for further purchase of raw material to later make the project self-sufficient and contribute to job creation.
